Theresa founded the Key West Cat Society, a non-profit for trap-neuter-release for cats, in 2006. She helps outdoor cats, neighborhoods and businesses by providing spay-neuter for cat colonies, which is the most advanced and humane method to control cat population.

Theresa has trapped and fixed more than 700 cats in the last eight years. She began working with feral cats and kittens in Key West, and continued upon relocating to Venice in 2006. Her organization and the Venice Cat Coalition are responsible for getting 30-40 cats per month to free spay-neuter clinics or vet offices. She is grateful to other animal organizations that help by providing the clinics or vouchers for surgery. KWCS funds some of the surgeries and provides rescue cats with medicine, foster homes, adoptions when possible and other necessities.
